Civic duty
Massachusetts isn't kidding about the average length of jury duty being three days. It's not often that things actually work out actually on the average, but it did this time.

I won't give the details of the case, although it was the second one I was called for while at the courthouse. The first was a case of credit card fraud, and the defense used one of their free dismissals on me. It was kind of an amusing bit of questioning, though:

"Have you ever been the victim of identity theft?"

"You mean..."

"Someone acquiring your credit card or social security number and exploiting it."

"Oh. Then, no."

I'm sure me being in the information technology industry didn't help matters. You never know what our attitudes are going to be about internet security, after all. It depends on our personal experience. In a previous life, I had some dot-com experience that would make me totally sympathetic to the idea that five thousand dollars in home electronics could be shipped to someone and paid for by another credit card without him knowing why - there were some bad start-ups in the nineties. Other places I've worked at not only put that idea to rest but would make me feel vindictive about it - violating a database is just a monstrous thing. Throw the book at 'em.

So, I wound up on a civil case. No details about it from me; even more than a criminal case, talking about that seems tacky. Fortunately, it was done with quickly, pretty open-and-shut. Finished that at about three this afternoon.

I actually bumped into Agent Jones on the way out; he was evidently getting some records for one of his other open cases. Much as I'd like catching Korpin to be the entire focus of the FBI's efforts, that's not going to happen. Nice to see him, though I don't think I'll ever get used to being greeted by a tap on the shoulder followed by "hey, sexy", especially in a place where I don't expect to know anybody.

Comments:
Korpin is now Agent Jones.

Heh. Korpin as Agent Jones? I'd hope that the FBI is clever enough to do something about testing its people that isn't easy to subvert.

That said, well, heck, Marti, why are you hanging around with the strays and losers, and not busy seducing agent Jones? There's one guy who would watch your back (ok, while oggling your ass, most likely, but, hey, that's the price of having a cute chasis) Clearly he's a bright, energetic, focused guy, and he's certainly up to speed on your condition. Sheesh, Tight tops and low cut jeans next time you drop in on the G-men, girl!

On another note... glad to see that the FBI are keeping things professional.

.. or is Marti hiding something about how she ALREADY bagged an agent?

Eh, you're making a big deal out of nothing. You talk to someone off and on for two years, things are going to get a little less formal, and neither of us was at the courthouse on Korpin-related business.

I'm as responsible as anyone; I think this comes from when I first met him and he was having name trouble ("what should I call you, Martin, Michelle, Martha...?") and I said something like "sexy" in order to get a rise out of him. I mean, "Martha"! Makes me sound like someone's grandma.

Truth be told, I'm probably too white for him; the pictures I spot or on his desk tend to have skin about as dark as his.

Well I can understand how you would have to adjust to being called sexy. Must be hard. I really like your blog. What are your "stats" might I ask? I mean you went from let's say 6'1" to 5'4"? I never saw in your entries how much of a change you had to deal with after the body swap. Might give some better insight to us readers as to what you have to deal with on a daily basis now. I also wonder if maybe agent Jones has been compromised by Korpin as well.
